Wanhao Duplicator i3 Y extension mod
thingiverse
UPDATE: Thanks are due to Sheriandjohn Tompkins for pointing out this crucial detail, making it possible to use the Y extension mod with the Z brace now!!! ( http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:921948 ) These extensions have been designed to be 8 mm shorter to compensate for the Z brace mod, ensuring that when both are installed, the overall extension length remains at 120mm. This modification is specifically designed to extend the Y axis of the Wanhao Duplicator i3 by 120mm. To accomplish this, you will need: -A longer GT2 Belt measuring 24 cm in excess of the standard -2 steel rods with a diameter of 8 mm and a length of 500 mm -6 M3 size screws (any length will suffice) -An adjustment to be made to the Max Y setting in EEPROM, changing it to 320 -Cutting of the two tiewraps that hold the plate cables, allowing for further downward movement of the plate -A larger build plate or longer Glass Important note: Please do not install this modification as I did! Follow the correct procedure instead. Instructions: 1. Begin by unscrewing the front plate that holds the rods (loosen the setcrews first) 2. Remove the belt 3. Place the extensions and secure them in position 4. You will not need long screws; M3x5mm ones are sufficient, with longer screws being preferable 5. Insert the rods 6. Use the same screws to attach the plate to the extensions 7. Reinsert the belt (1m should be ample, as the original belt measures 76cm) 8. Complete! Print Settings: Printer: Wanhao Duplicator i3 Resolution: 0.2 Infill: 25 Notes: Infill percentage can be adjusted according to personal preference; I used a setting of 25 with satisfactory results.
