Wanhao Duplicator I3 Plus X Belt Redesign
thingiverse
Continuing work from the Y-belt redesign, an early version of the X-belt redesign is now available. This upgrade offers more control for those who want it with their belt-driven carriage. There are several ways to improve the printer's resolution beyond the original 12.5 microns. You can change the pulley motor gear to a 10-toothed one, which will give you a 6.25 micron resolution but reduce grip surfaces, making the belt more prone to slipping. A better option is to use a 0.9 degree stepper motor, although this comes at a higher cost and retains existing design flaws. You can still complement this redesign with 0.9 degree stepper motors. The total cost of the redesign is approximately $10, promising to rectify the shortcomings that plagued the printer from its inception. See my Y-belt redesign here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3483366 Here's why you'd want this upgrade: * Precise belt tensioning of the X-belt. * Reduced belt slop - No belt springs are needed. * Reinforced X-pulley mount. * 1:2 gearing - 160 steps/millimeter. * Compatible with most common NEMA17 motors. * Improved X axis jerk settings. On the other hand, you might not want this upgrade if: * Your X motor will be louder. * Your X motor will run hotter. * Your print speeds may decrease slightly. Please note that this modification requires permanent changes to your printer and voids your warranty. I disclaim any responsibility for potential damages to you or your printer. An installation guide is coming soon. If you have questions, comments, or critique, feel free to post them.
