I'm not pleased with the standard spool holder that comes with my 3D printer, even though it's made of metal - it's still too flimsy. As soon as I load a roll of filament, I notice it starts to sag. There is a better alternative to this holder available. This one is much stiffer and provides more stability. One notable feature of this improved holder is that it has a hole for locking in place with an M3-0.5x 16mm or longer socket cap screw. After securing the spool, I recommend placing some tape over the area where the screw makes contact to prevent scratching the paint.
