Wanhao Duplicator i3 Adjustable Z-Axis Limit Switch Mount
thingiverse
Yet another adjustable z-axis limit switch mount designed to meet specific needs. A mount that offers coarse and fine adjustments, requires no printer modification, utilizes existing stock parts, is fully printable, and features no additional required components has been created. All goals have been met, but incorporating a rubber band or small springs enhances the design's robustness by damping motion caused by moving part interface tolerances. The interchangeable clipping switch mount press fits onto adjustment rods, with two common switch dimensions implemented. Others, including optical limit switches, can be easily added. For each of the two switch sizes, there is a design version for use with springs and another for a rubber band. The mswitch_13a_XXX versions are specifically designed for the Wanhao Duplicator i3's stock switch. If you're not replacing your limit switch, start here and choose between: 1) mswitch_13a-build_plate_s.stl - stock switch spring version 2) mswitch_13a-build_plate_b.stl - stock switch rubber band version There are build plates for the resulting four combinations. If you need to print an individual component, all rendered STL model combinations are included in the zip archive. As configured, the spring version of the mount enables approximately 20mm of coarse (-5mm to +15mm) and 10mm of fine (+/-5mm) adjustments. This design utilizes the thread Screw Library. Print Settings: Printer: Monoprice Maker Select Rafts: No Supports: No Notes: Print for accuracy and strength. Better results are achieved when printing at lower speeds. Post-Printing Instructions: Hone the two guide rod holes and center threaded rod hole using drill bits. A powered drill is not necessary; simply turn the bits inside the hole to clear out any burs and irregularities. An 11/64" bit has been used for the threaded rod hole, while 5/32" bits have been used for the guide rod holes. Be cautious not to overdo it, as the rods should fit snugly but slide without requiring excessive axial force. Work the thumb wheel down the threads a few times to clean them up. Insert each end of the rods into the switch mount separately and gently rotate to smooth the inner hole and outer posts surfaces. File/sand the thumb wheel slot and wheel surface, as needed, to achieve smooth insertion and rotation of the wheel in the slot. Assemble the pieces together, ensuring the switch mount is fully seated. Place the switch mount upside down on a firm table and press the rods down into the mount. If the lead or rod breaks, reprint it with higher infill. Printing at 20% has yielded no problems; the center threaded rod carries the most force. Rubber Band Version Assembly: When feeding the rubber band, an open paper clip and tweezers can be used to navigate the small holes. Assembly Front: Assembly Back: Start with the knot recess at the front of the upper switch mount. Feed the rubber band from the back and tie a knot at the front. Pull on the rubber band to countersink the knot at the front. Feed the other end back through the bracket arm from the rear to the front. Feed across the arm to the other side and then into the adjacent feed hole from front to back. Finally, feed from the back of the switch to the front and tie at the countersinking hole.
