Wanhao D9 - custom cooler
thingiverse
For my MK1, I swapped the standard cooling fan with a ballbearing radialfan that blew fresh air from the side. I achieved very good results with it. It looked a bit unsightly and with printing the construction would always bend slightly due to heat, but it worked fine. After upgrading to my MK2, I installed the fan that came with it. Also a radial fan, but not as effective. That thing could only produce a light breeze, which was not enough for proper cooling of PLA with small details or overhanging structures. Because of the BL-Touch sensor, I couldn't use my old radialfan setup anymore; the sensor was now in place. So I decided to design a new cooler, one that would work and look much better for both MK1 and MK2 owners. It uses the old MK1 "hotend blower," which is more heat-resistant than home-printed ones. You need to use those original three screws to mount everything at the bottom, just like the original fan. On top of that, it cools in two directions, also cooling the underside of the hotend firewall before pushing the air out towards the hotend. This gets the temperature down by a significant margin - from almost too hot to touch to body temperature (I don't have a thermometer). The weight of the cooler is now more towards the X bar. I've reached version four, and it fits great and works really well. You need to remove the small cable clamp on the right side, but there's a notch included in the design to keep the cables in place. Did I mention it's the best-looking cooler for the D9? The size and specs of the fan are: 5015 - DC 24V - 1W - Brushless - Ballbearing type (lasts longer and is less noisy). https://nl.aliexpress.com/item/2-PCS-Gdstime-5015-50mm-DC-24-V-12-V-5-V-2Pin-Bal-Glijlager-Brushless/32841967974.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dXwt0oC
