The WEDway PeopleMover launched on July 1, 1975, drawing inspiration from Disneyland's renowned PeopleMover in California. Due to its departure from the original propulsion system based on Goodyear tires, which rotated to generate power, Goodyear chose not to support the East Coast version. The Edison Electric Institute became the ride's primary sponsor at launch. Voice legend Jack Wagner provided the initial narration track for the attraction.
