Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress
thingiverse
Welcome to Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress, where you're in for a real treat. The Carousel was Walt's own idea from start to finish. He loved it and introduced the show at the World's Fair in New York City in 1964, where it became an instant hit. Millions of people came to see it and since then, the Carousel has had more performances than any other stage show in American theater history. Walt Disney himself was a true patriot who loved the idea of progress and the American family. He thought it would be fun to watch an American family go through the 20th century as they experienced new wonders. And he put them together in a show called Carousel of Progress, which we are about to see. Although our Carousel family has undergone some changes over the years, our show still revolves around the same theme: progress. May this new century bring us all success. This is a working model of the Carousel of Progress theater. It moves and has the correct number of seats in each of its six theaters. I built it from scratch based on the Walt Disney Company's Carousel of Progress, except for the photo, which was provided by Evan Wohrman on Flickr under CC-By-SA-2.0, and the gears and small hex shaft, which came from Vex Motors. You can see a link to a model of the sign that was posted after this one. For an explanation of what the Carousel is, I'm providing you with Walt Disney himself, courtesy of Disney Parks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qs7G_uyIK6o And here's the pitch video to General Electric, the original sponsors of the show, courtesy of Marcio Moreira: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERGzVsapQ54 If you're interested, I may add a spot to put a Parallax Servo to drive the Carousel. Also, I may add the eight turntables in four of the theaters if interested, as well as a way to drive them.
