The original X-carriage has been replaced with a new one after R&P modification on the Wallace X-Carriage. Unfortunately, the thermister fell out of the hot-end causing predictable damage. A video demonstration is available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdH4k7Sb1UA. Octopus 1 was printed before the X R&P mod was added while Octopus 2 features full R&P with shells printed at 48mm/s. A 4" (100mm) circle, 1" (27mm) high single wall was printed at 75mm/s. To install the new carriage, follow these instructions: remove X-motor and idler bearings from Wallace; remove old X-carriage from rails and install new one using a 10mm M3 bolt to hold the bottom liner bearing in place; put 6mm threaded rod through the rack, measure against X-ends for proper coverage, add nuts at each end of the rack to secure; lower the X-stage to its bottom/home position and attach 6mm mounts on the rod, carefully adjusting them to match idler bolt holes before securing with original bolts and nuts. Place the pinion on the X-motor, leaving about 1mm space between the motor and pinion; place the motor on the X-carriage motor mount and check for correct pinion height matching the rack; mount the motor using 10mm M3 bolts and slide it against the rack. Ensure gentle pressure for smooth motion without causing ripples or backlash, then tighten the bolts (rear bolts may not be necessary). Adjust firmware for X-motion (76.7480 recommended) and make your own distance measurements due to potential variance in printer-made racks. Happy printing!
