Human: Sabaean influence is clearly evident in northern Ethiopia, where the South Arabian alphabet, religion, and pantheon were successfully introduced, along with their distinctive style of art and architecture. The Sabeans created a strong sense of identity through their faith, worshipping El-Maqah as their supreme deity and believing themselves to be his beloved children. For centuries, they maintained control over all outbound trade across the Bab-el-Mandeb strait, which separates the Arabian Peninsula from the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea from the Indian Ocean. By the third century BC, Qataban, Hadramout, and Ma'in had gained independence from Saba and established themselves as major players in the Yemeni arena. Minaean rule extended as far as Dedan, with their capital situated at Baraqish. The Sabaeans regained control over Ma'in after the collapse of Qataban in 50 BCE. By the time of the Roman expedition to Arabia Felix in 25 BC, the Sabaeans had once again established themselves as the dominant power in Southern Arabia, prompting Aelius Gallus to lead a military campaign aimed at establishing Roman dominance over the Sabeans.
