I'm using shelving brackets that are meant to be paired with 2mm thick acrylic panels. You can see in my picture, I've got two 2.9" x 3.9" rectangles of 2mm acrylic from Lowes. To get a snugger fit for the front joints on the acrylic, I printed the source small hex shelf Ys and Vs at 195% scale.
