Wall Mount Spool Holder

Wall Mount Spool Holder

thingiverse

I couldn't find a spool holder that fit my needs on Thingiverse, so I designed my own with bearings to ensure it met my requirements. I used standard skate bearings with an ID of 8mm and an OD of 22mm; to make them easier to insert into the shaft, I froze them first. This design supports my 1kg and 500g rolls with ease. I downloaded an M8 nut from Thingiverse, though I'm not sure if it's necessary for me - you might need it, though. To secure it to my desk, I used wood screws just below my extruder motor on the side. I designed it using bearings to be overkill, which results in next to no resistance on the motor; however, it is a bit unnecessary. Initially, I planned to use 3 bearings like shown in the assembly drawing, but I ended up only using 2 and it works just fine. STL's and solidworks files are available for download if you're interested. I might end up modifying this design in the future. Changes I would probably make: - Add a small chamfer to the shaft to help remove it from the build plate. - Change the shaft design slightly so that the bearings can be put on from both sides rather than being pushed all the way down inside.
