<p>After years of agonizing, I finally went "all in" and spent a few dollars and a few grams to make some spool holders. With a couple dual material printers and one 5 material printer.... Things were getting out of hand.</p> <p>After printing out 10 sets of Loco's Wall-mount spool holders, I thought I would make my own wall mount block - I used bolts instead of threaded rod/nuts, and wanted to eliminate the lock nuts altogether.</p> <p>Finally, since I need to mount multiple spools near each other, I made a 210 mm guide (with weighted bottom) since I end up needing to install a bunch of sheetrock anchors.</p> <p>NOTE: I was using Ikea bolts to mount to the wall, so the holes are a little tight for #8 hardware. They should load in correctly.</p> If you dislike the tightness of the mount, you can print with a little horizontal compensation. A fraction of a mm should make it plenty loose, but see below: It's tight on purpose. <h3>Post-Printing</h3> <p><strong>Notes on Assembly/usage</strong></p> <p>Mounts:</p> <p>The mounts are printed pretty tight, in order to better grip/control the bolt shaft. Mine needed a light tapping with a hammer to insert, but feel great afterwards. Note that the bolts sit just inside of the chamfer, not even with the surface, so be sure to full insert them or a spool could loosen in use.</p> <p>Jig:</p> <p>I'm printing this now, so it's untested. In theory, a push pin in the middle should be all you need. The guide is already 5mm clearance all around for a 200 mm spool, and it should hang vertical negating the need for a level (one could argue OCD isn't a "need").</p> <p>If it's not enough, you can run an M3 bolt into the hole on the bottom to weight it further, and put a bunch of washers/nuts on the shaft for more.</p> <p>Once it's hanging where you like, pen-or-pin mark the wall for the three holes, remove the jig by pulling the pin and carry on.</p> </div></p></p> Category: 3D Printer Accessories
