# Wall Mount for the Prusa Multiple Materials Unit 2/S filament buffer. # History Prusa's MMU 2.0 offering presents a groundbreaking approach to multiple materials. The release of MK3S also included an update to their MMU2S, with all owners receiving a free update featuring the Filament Buffer. I was fortunate enough to get an early start thanks to Prusa posting files on their MMU2 GitHub. ## S-buffer-plate.dxf This file outlines a buffer plate that is too large for the MK3. I created slightly smaller dividers, which can be printed on the MK3 and feature extra fingering room to make filament loading easier. If you find it difficult to finger the filament from the filament buffer to the MMU, print a set of barriers. The extra fingering room and rounded opening make a significant difference, while the slightly smaller size does not seem to affect anything. I experimented with a honeycomb pattern but noticed that the filament tends to pass through the holes, making it only usable on the top layer. On the top layer, it is beneficial as you can see how the filament coils. # Final Results The Filament Buffer addresses one of the major issues I had with the MMU: dealing with retracted filament. Hanging the buffer on the wall moved five rolls of filament off my desk, which only had space for four, and allowed the printer to sit much closer to the wall. **Before** ![Buffer Behind Printer](http://floatingcam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/MyFilamentBuffer.jpg) **After** ![Buffer Wall Mounted](https://cdn.thingiverse.com/renders/81/34/13/02/44/411e625e17618918c520ab7c97ed571c_preview_featured.jpg) I wanted the mount to provide full access to the filament buffer and, since there are no significant forces being applied to it, I just latch it lightly in place. It holds the buffer to the wall, making it easy to remove. ![Unlatching Buffer](https://cdn.thingiverse.com/renders/1c/ce/e5/44/f4/53b172b47f15d3ecc304c33d48bc31e3_preview_featured.jpg) # Spool Holders I designed a Wall Mounted Spool Holder with bearings using parts from the Prusa MMU filament tray it replaced. ![Wall Mounted Spool Holder with Bearings](https://cdn.thingiverse.com/renders/93/1a/08/18/e3/64d6bc900d5e8fce669aa65b34cf258f_preview_featured.jpg) OR, you can print pegs like the ones I started with. [Simple Wall Mount Spool Holder](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2739976) I printed 3 x 75mm, 1 x 85mm, and the remixed version [Simple Wall Mount Spool Holder for Stupid 30mm Filament Reel Holes](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3398038) with the smaller peg because I have some odd-sized reels. All of the mounts work with standard spools, and having the 85 and small peg should cover the instances where I use one of them. May 23, 2019: I added a link to the [wall mounts with bearings](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3647071) created to replace the pegs, reducing the drag caused by the filament spool. April 27, 2019: I replaced the dividers with a version that the MK3 can print and changed to a rounded edge, adding a little room for fingering the filaments into the MMU. The extra fingering room is great!
