My take on a 3D printed in-wall mount, housing, interior and exterior covers for a 120mm fan (AC Infinity AXIAL S1238). I use it as an exhaust fan in my studio to vent 3D printing fumes out. https://youtu.be/tIvtVzQSZC8 It has 4 components: Interior plate: houses the fan and speed controller Interior cover: (hot/cold climates) to cover the fan when its not in use, insulated with spray foam Exterior plate: slides into the interior plate to extend the duct Exterior cover: covers the exterior plate and has flaps to prevent backdraft. All components are designed to be printed flat on the bed without supports (fan base STL already includes tree supports) I mounted the exterior plate and cover with M2x16 flat head screws For the interior cover I paused the printer before the first top layer starts printing and filled it with spray foam (2 layers, make sure you wait for the foam to cure fully before you finish printing). Or you can omit the top layers altogether if you do not want it enclosed and use spray foam when the print finishes. The exterior cover with the swinging flaps is all one print-in-place piece. While I used 0.3 layers for everything else, for this one I used 0.12mm as it makes the motion much smoother. Parametric design in Fusion 360 (STEP and F3D source files available in the files section) Note: this fan is AC all the way to the motor, be careful with the wiring and connections.
