Wakizashi

A wakizashi is a finely crafted Japanese sword designed as a secondary blade, reserved for close combat when a katana has been lost or is deemed too long. Typically wielded alongside the katana, this versatile weapon plays a pivotal role in seppuku ceremonies. As part of a personal endeavor to hone realistic asset creation skills, I embarked on a project that expanded beyond its original scope – creating an authentic wakizashi. By meticulously crafting all assets and textures myself, I aimed to achieve a level of depth and detail typically associated with highly realistic visual representations. Utilizing Maya as the primary 3D modeling tool, I brought the wakizashi to life through a combination of precise geometry and thoughtful texturing. Then, leveraging Substance Painter's capabilities, I meticulously textured each aspect of the sword, striving for an authentic appearance that would fool even the most discerning eye.
