Anton Starkopf's (1889–1966) groundbreaking work had a profound impact on the evolution of Modernist sculpture in Estonia during the 1920s and 1930s. Starkopf boldly introduced fresh subject matter and innovative treatments of the human form, drawing inspiration from German Expressionism, into Estonian sculpture. As one of the visionary founders of the pioneering national art school Pallas in Estonia in 1919, Starkopf played a pivotal role in shaping a new generation of pre-war artists. His influence was instrumental in elevating the skills and artistic vision of countless talented individuals.
