This exceptional axe has been skillfully crafted from a mysterious igneous rock that remains unidentified to this day. This remarkable implement was unearthed on the ancient Neolithic settlement at Skara Brae, located in Sandwick, Orkney, dating back to around 3200-2400 BC. Its dimensions are striking: length measures 158mm, breadth is 62.8mm, and thickness stands at 48.1mm. Its weight is substantial, weighing in at a hefty 865 grams. This extraordinary find has been assigned the catalog number NMS X.HA 617 by National Museums Scotland.
