Wahl 9818L T-blade retainer clip
thingiverse
This is a functional replacement retainer clip for the T-blade that comes with the Wahl 9818L (and some other models) beard trimmer. A crucial piece broke where the spring was attached. Instead of investing $15+ in an entirely new blade, I designed and printed this substitute for the cost of ~1g of plastic. This should also work for the narrower detail trimmer, but I haven't tested it yet. Use the original self-tapping screws to cut threads in the outer holes before attempting to attach. It's easiest to position the metal pieces that slide together first. Then insert the spring wire into the new part and press down on the base metal to secure the screws. Getting the spring in after assembly is quite difficult, if not impossible. It took several iterations of measure/print/test to get the clearances just right. This resulted in a bit of rubbing/wear on the plastic features on the handle portion. Printed in PLA, PETG will also work if it doesn't hold up. I welcome your feedback!
