Wahl "0.5" guard
thingiverse
This guard fits Wahl brand clippers sold at Costco. It is slightly closer than a #1, so I like to call it a #1/2 although I don't actually know. I printed this in grey hatchbox pla. Printing: I printed it on its small edge to maintain strength where the clippers need it most. My printer also likes to steal ~0.5mm in the z due to the heated glass bed, so printing it on the side kept the blades from being weakened. I printed it at ~50mm/s, 0.1 layer size, 15% infill, 15% support and 1.2mm walls. Printing on edge requires support. Design: I did the fit of the clippers face first. I then drew a master blade in the plane of the guard edge to meet my length requirements and to fit the clippers. This was a connected poly-line that I extruded to form my first blade right on the edge of the clippers. I multiplied and transformed the blade across the tip of the guard, adding support to the blades on the end for extra strength and to hold the clippers better. I then filleted the sharp edges to make it a bit nicer on the scalp.
