Wadi Matar 1 - Arabie Saoudite
sketchfab
The ancient site at Wadi Mater 1 is comprised of three main structures. Two additional buildings appear to have been constructed during a later Islamic occupation of the area, but are not represented here. First, one can observe a built complex spreading out around a central open space that also seems to have functioned as an outdoor courtyard. The orientation of this structure follows a north-northwest to south-southeast axis. Second, a large building with a rectangular general top plan is divided by internal walls. It appears to have been constructed after the previous building, as it cuts into the easternmost space and is oriented along cardinal points. Lastly, located to the south of these two buildings, one can see a circular unit composed of standing stones measuring approximately 13 meters in diameter. The photogrammetric survey of the structures was conducted in January 2019 as part of the Saudi-French archaeological mission to the Farasan Islands, led by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Heritage and the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.
