I conceptualized a 3D puzzle with interlocking parts secured by rubber rings after observing a display stand at the local supermarket. Drawing inspiration from this biplane design I previously published, I began to search for optimal solutions for each piece. The ideal scenario would be each part locking another part in place, which proved unfeasible. Following several iterations and modifications to the original design, I successfully created a working prototype. I produced two versions of the puzzle using my desktop CNC machine from Stepcraft. One was crafted from 6.5 mm beech plywood with a spiral-toothed 1.2 mm flute, while the larger one was made from 9 mm birch plywood. The rubber rings were sourced from eBay. The smaller rings measure 5x2mm and 6x2mm, whereas the larger ones are 10x2.4mm and 15x2.4mm. To access more simplified plane designs, visit https://www.zenziwerken.de/en/Toys/Plane-Models.
