Vyšehrad, meaning "upper castle" in Czech, is a historic fort situated in the heart of Prague, roughly 3 km southeast of Prague Castle's majestic grounds, along the Vltava River's right bank. This ancient stronghold was likely constructed in the 10th century. At its core lies the stunning Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul. A poignant statue stands proudly within the fort, created by renowned artist Josef Václav Myslbek. The sculpture depicts Ctirad and Šárka, legendary figures from Slavic mythology and a pivotal moment in Bohemian lore known as The Maidens' War. According to this tale, after Libuše's passing, her daughters built Děvín Castle on the opposite hill of Vyšehrad.
