The YE-4 gunship was born from modified blueprints for the VX-9 Mailoc, which had been seized by the Republic SIS and openly shared with companies loyal to the Republic. Specifically designed by Republic Fleet Systems, the VX-4 Preserver emerged as a formidable transport vessel, heavily armed and equipped to withstand intense combat situations. Several units were deployed during the pivotal Battle of Hoth, where they played a crucial role in evacuating stealth field generators back to Republican-controlled space as the tide began to shift in favor of the Republic forces.
