My VW Golf 6 had a problem with the window regulator for the passenger side. Further investigation showed that the drive gear in the engine housing, which is directly driven by a metal gear from the motor, was damaged. The metal gear had worn down the plastic teeth of the gear so that it would no longer turn and the window could not be moved. After searching for a long time, I couldn't find any matching replacement gears online, but only the entire engine as a spare part at a cost of around 140€! This type of window regulator motor has been used in many different VW vehicles (and possibly others such as Seat and Audi) for many years. So, I decided to replicate the defective gear myself using Thinkercad. After the first print, it fit perfectly and the window moved smoothly again. I printed it with PLA, but I don't know how long it will withstand the stress. For 140€, I can definitely print a few more until the entire motor replacement is worth it. If it doesn't last long, I'll try printing with ABS or another more robust material.
