I designed a makeshift tool to remove the oil filter cap from my VW Touareg V10 TDI using a 1/2" ratchet. The commercial tool for this purpose is sold as VAS6753 or T10192, and it's indeed a high-quality, sturdy metal tool that's probably worth every penny for professional use. But I needed the tool the same day, so I used a makeshift solution instead - and to my surprise, it worked perfectly well for both removal and installation of the oil filter cap.
