During its initial months at the Wolfsburg factory in Germany, about 60 vehicles were completed each day on the assembly line. This groundbreaking vehicle inherited its transmission system from the famous VW Beetle. Unlike the Beetle, however, the T1 employed a bearing body with a multi-link frame design that provided superior support. The original T1 model had a payload capacity of up to 860 kilograms. But with the upgraded model introduced in 1954, the car's load-carrying capacity increased by a remarkable 70 kilograms. Initially, the 4-cylinder rear-wheel drive engines sourced from the Beetle produced an impressive 25 horsepower. Later on, these were replaced with more modern and efficient power units that boasted anywhere from 30 to 44 HP. Additionally, this upgraded vehicle was equipped with drum brakes for enhanced safety. The distinctive design of the car is instantly recognizable due to its large VW logo and two-part windshield. The driver and passenger windows feature smooth-sliding mechanisms, making them incredibly convenient to use.\n\nOn March 8th, 1956, production shifted to the new Volkswagen factory in Hanover, where it continued until the model was eventually replaced by the T2 worldwide in 1967. Meanwhile, at the Brazilian Volkswagen plant in San Bernardo do Campo, manufacturing persisted even after the model's international successor had been released.
