I've been tinkering with this project for a few weeks now; I initially created it to hone my skills in surface modeling using Solidworks and before I knew it, things got out of hand quickly. Although I have other projects in the works that require my attention, I'm happy to share how far I've gotten so far in case someone else wants to utilize these files as a foundation for something new or simply add their own creative touch. Currently, the chassis is mostly complete; it boasts functional doors and hatches, along with an ingenious side door slider mechanism. My approach to steering and suspension was heavily influenced by some innovative OpenRC projects - check out this particular example for inspiration:http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:42198. The main things still in need of design are the shocks/springs, rear suspension system, powertrain, and mounts for the motor, servo, and battery. As it's intended to be RWD, this RC model will undoubtedly resemble its clumsy real-world counterpart. For printing, flexible materials like NinjaFlex work well for the tires, while hardware such as 10x4x3 bearings, some 1mm and 3mm studs/rods, and M3 screws are all readily available. The Solidworks .STLPRT files included here are designed to be easily manipulated and modified. For now, this model is not yet ready for RC action, but it can certainly serve as a decoration piece. Please note that running the files through Netfabb first will ensure you get the best possible print quality if you do decide to give printing a shot!
