Horn Button for VW Bus. Part Number 211.415. The best way to print the flat emblem ("VW Horn Button.stl") is face down on build plate using support for side groove slot. This setup works perfectly and yields great results. To print the other two models ("VW Horn Button Original.stl" and "VW Horn Button Original with logo.stl"), it's best to have the button facing up at a 45-degree angle from the build plate, using supports and brim. This method produces excellent results every time. For the retaining clip, start by cutting a piece of 80/20 bronze wound guitar string (5th A 0.042" diameter) 7-3/4" long. Then wrap it tightly around a 5/8 to 3/4 diameter bar or tube to create a circular profile. The spring-back will make the wire slightly larger than the groove in the button. Bend the ends approximately 1/2" on each end, and insert them into the slot in the groove. Assemble the button by inserting it into the metal cup starting at the closed end of the clip, and work your way around to the open end of the clip as the last part of insertion. UPDATE: After successfully printing parts with PETG, I decided to try ABS and vapor smooth the part. Because ABS tends to warp easily, I had trouble printing the part as it would separate from the build platform between layers 1 to approximately 20. To solve this issue, I added a tab to the bottom of the part ("VW Horn Button Original with logo and base tab.stl"). After printing, cut off the tab using a bandsaw (or a hacksaw could also be used). Sand and vapor smooth the part to provide a shiny smooth surface, which gives it a cool vintage look similar to Bakelite. Vapor smoothing was done by placing paper towel in position with cardboard, saturating it with acetone, and sealing it with an upside-down plastic lid filled with water to retain the vapor.
