VW Golf TAS Logo

The "S" error has been corrected. This is TAS, which stands for Tvornica automobila Sarajevo in English, or Car factory Sarajevo. In 1967, Pretis acquired the license to manufacture NSU cars from Audi VAG group, and five years later, TAS was born. The first car produced by TAS was the iconic VW Beetle, coded as "1200 J" and "1300 J." Those numbers indicated the engine size of the flat-4 found in the Beetle, but a funny twist is that the 1200 actually had an engine displacement of 1100 cm³, while the 1300 had an engine displacement of 1300 cm³. TAS continued to produce cars with impressive results. The next car they built was the legendary VW Golf, followed by the Jetta. These vehicles brought significant popularity to TAS. People began buying cars from TAS in increasing numbers because they were priced lower than their German counterparts. TAS later produced the Caddy and eventually the Mk2 Golf and Jetta's. You could easily identify these cars by the "TAS" logo on their grille.
