The Hood Opener Latch on a Volkswagen Golf Mk4 is designed to make it easy to access the engine compartment from outside the vehicle. Simply locate the latch on the driver's side of the car and press down on it with your finger or a flathead screwdriver. As you apply pressure, the latch will release and swing open, allowing you to lift up the hood and gain access to the engine area underneath.
