VW Analog Tachometer Replacement Gauge
thingiverse
After finishing the digital version of my Karmann Ghia's clock replacement last week:http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1068919,I found the brightness, which can't be adjusted on this digital version, to be unacceptably bright and blinding for night driving.Although I loved its cool appearance,Yesterday I received an analog tachometer from eBay, costing only about $11.I spent all day today updating my digital tach design for the new analog tachometer. You won't like what comes next,I had to make some adjustments to my original equipment involving a hack saw in order for the analog tach to fit.In the end, I'm satisfied with my working tachometer mounted in my 1973 Karmann Ghia clock gauge. It's wonderful to see my RPMs anytime I want instead of having a dead clock! To install the fuel gauge parts, you'll need to carefully file down the face so it has zero conflict with the fuel gauge needle. This is crucial. To remove the fuel gauge from its housing, you can use pliers and a vice clamp to gently pry off that stubborn nut, then replace it with a regular hex-nut.Be careful not to damage the delicate needle. The Dragon Gauge tach only snaps into place when the front two screws holding the white bezel are removed, after which you must maneuver it into position.Once in place, reinstall those two small black screws.Message me if you have any questions-this project took me all day but I anticipate it'll take only 4 hours for others.Share a photo of your completed project so I can see how it turns out!
