Rig VTX/Camera for Bench Tests. When testing an FPV receiver, firing up a race drone can be forgetful, causing time to slip away while settings are adjusted. Overheating and burning the VTX on the quad are also possible consequences. VTXs are designed to operate only when in motion, with plenty of airflow surrounding them; otherwise, they would come equipped with large heat sinks. This setup utilizes a 30mm fan that blows air onto the VTX while it's powered on, allowing it to run for extended periods if needed. The enclosure features exit air vent holes around the VTX to prevent overheating and thermal issues. A 200mw VTX will suffice for this project, as higher power ratings like 600mw would be excessive and cause excessive heat buildup. For this setup, a 200mw Aomway VTX is employed. To complete the circuit, a voltage regulator steps down the voltage to 5v for the camera, while the VTX operates at 12v. Additionally, a 30mm fan is included in the rig. Note that this particular VTX does not supply 5v power to the camera. After assembly and printing out of PETG at 260c with an 80c bed temperature, the device functions as intended. The Lipo battery can be left powered for extended periods without any issues. To ensure successful prints with PETG, a warm ambient temperature is required, ranging from 75F to 80F. If this requirement is not met, warped prints may result. To achieve this, either maintain a warm room or construct a dollar tree foam board enclosure around the print bed. PETG is considered superior to ABS due to its non-toxic fumes and virtually indestructible nature. PLA, on the other hand, is deemed suitable for children's projects alone.
