VR version - Tomb of the Kings

The Kings' Tombs are a massive burial ground located about two kilometers north of Paphos Harbour in Cyprus. They hold the distinction of being a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Carved directly into solid rock, many of these underground tombs date back to the 4th century BC and are believed to have been the final resting places for elite Cypriot aristocrats and high-ranking officials up until the third century AD. The site's name reflects its grandeur; in reality, no kings were interred here. Some of these ancient structures feature Doric columns and walls adorned with vibrant frescoes. Archaeological excavations are still underway at this historic site. The tombs were expertly carved into Cyprus' native rock, sometimes mirroring the architecture of homes built by living residents. Despite being known to casual explorers for centuries, a systematic excavation project was initiated in the late 1970s and 1980s under the supervision of Dr Sophocles Hadjisavvas, former Director of Antiquities for Cyprus.
