Velleda is a sculpture by Laurent Marqueste created at the Musee des Augustins. Exhibited in the 1877 Salon by Laurent Marqueste (1848-1920), Velleda is drawn from Chateaubriand's Martyrs (1809). Velleda, the Germanic prophetess, was betrayed by her own people after rallying a portion of Gaul against Rome where she met death in captivity.
