VQ models has released a highly detailed 1/12 scale model of the B-24 Liberator aircraft, which can be viewed at https://vqwarbirds.com/product/vq-b-24-liberator-110-arf-olive-gray/. The plane features rolling doors that don't operate out of the box, leaving it up to the modeler to add this functionality. For those interested in actuating the doors, a comprehensive blog on building the rolling door construction can be found at https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?3321299-VQ-110-B-24-rolling-bomb-bay-doors/. To begin, it's essential to sand down the door channels to achieve a smooth surface for operation. The following are some sanding tools used to accomplish this task. After inspecting the channels, I discovered that they vary in width, with the farthest back one requiring a slightly narrower sander. To address this, I created two sets of sanders: 10.7mm wide and 12mm wide. Although using just the 10.7mm version would suffice, having both sizes allows for more flexibility when working with the channels. It's worth noting that the extrusion multiplier can affect the width of the sanders, so keep this in mind when printing. I printed these tools with a two-layer bottom/top/side configuration and 30% infill using PLA, as they are intended to be disposable. The sanding tools come in two curvatures: 140mm arc for the more curved parts of the channel, and 280mm arc for the flatter sections. The latter is designed with an asymmetric shape to better fit into the highest points of the channel, which is farther away from the door opening. In total, there are four sanding tools available: two widths (12mm and 10.7mm) paired with two curvatures (140mm and 280mm). The file names should provide a clear indication of their intended use. For further guidance on finishing these sanders, see the "Post-Printing" section for advice.
