Votive relief
myminifactory
Votive relief crafted from Pentelic marble, unearthed at Eleusis in Attica. Herakles is portrayed as intoxicated, reclining beneath a tree on a rocky outcropping where he has laid his lion's pelt. He grasps a skyphos in his left hand and snaps the fingers of his raised right hand, setting the tempo for the young Satyr standing before him, who plays the double flute. His club and a thyrsos, adorned with ribbons, lean against the tree-trunk while his quiver hangs from a branch. This relief was likely dedicated in the sanctuary of Herakles at Eleusis.
