Athens or Attica (Greece), acquired in 1841Marble, 410-400 BC This scene depicts a lavish banquet, yet it's not a realistic portrayal of everyday gatherings. The presence of wives at the men's symposium would have been unthinkable. Instead, this is a sacred image type created to honor revered deceased family members. This is evident in the family group paying homage to the hero. This object is part of "Scan The World," a non-profit initiative launched by MyMiniFactory. Scan The World aims to create a digital library of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the globe, accessible for free to the public. This project is an open-source community effort. If you have interesting items nearby that you'd like to contribute, email stw@myminifactory.com to learn how you can participate.
