Votive relief [2]

Found at Gytheion, Lakonia. The relief has a distinctive form of naiskos - a small temple in classical order with columns or pillars and pediment, featuring pilasters and an epistyle. According to the inscription on the epistyle, Sosikrates dedicated his daughter Agathokleia to Demeter and Persephone. Demeter is depicted at the center of the representation, seated on a round base (or cista mystica), in front of which Cerberus stands guard - the guardian of Hades. In her right hand, she holds the standing Persephone's hand. Next to Demeter is a male figure identified as Plouton or possibly the dedicator Sosikrates himself. At the left side, Agathokleia, Sosikrates' daughter, is depicted on a smaller scale. This object is part of "Scan The World".
