Voronoi Klein Bottle

Voronoi Klein Bottle

thingiverse

Inspired by Dizingof's perforated bottle, this Klein Bottle version utilizes a Voronoi tessellation for perforation. Print without support, but use a brim for better adhesion to the platform. Created in ViaCad and MeshLab, the model includes three surfaces - the bottle body, neck, and patch covering the intersection. In ViaCad, export the bottle and neck as fine meshes, and the patch as a regular resolution mesh. In MeshLab, import the bottle and patch, then use Disk Vertex Coloring to color the bottle based on patch points, adjusting parameters until the patch is fully colored. Set render color to none, then select faces by color in RGB mode with all sliders set to 1. Adjust R value until selected area excludes the patch. Invert selection and delete selected faces and vertices to create the hole, slightly larger than the patch for a desirable effect. Save work frequently to avoid MeshLab crashes. If needed, import the neck with different shades from the bottle; invert faces using Filters > Normals > Invert Faces... Then, use Flatten filter to merge meshes. To prevent tessellation issues at the neck-bottle join, merge close faces with 8-10% overlap. Save results and perform Voronoi tesselation with about 250 points for optimal results.
