A Voronoi diagram is a partitioning of a plane into regions based on distance to points in a specific set of seed points. Each region contains one seed point, and all other points in the region are closer to this particular seed point than any other in the set. These diagrams have applications in various fields, including computational geometry, robotics, and network analysis. They can be used to determine the nearest neighbor for a given point or to identify clusters within a dataset. The Voronoi diagram is named after Georgii Voronoy, who introduced it in 1908.
