Voron 2.4 Wire Combs - Prevent wire breakage
thingiverse
Over a year ago, my Voron went down with another broken wire. After looking at all of the patches in the XY axis wires I decided to re-wire the machine. To keep the new wires in tact, I decided to use drag chain wire separators or "wire combs". Since my printer was down, I made wire combs by cutting DuPont connectors in half and using the back half to separate the wires. After putting many hours of printing on my machine I have not had a single wire break for over a year and a half.Since then I designed very basic combs for the X and Y drag chains and decided to replace the DuPont connectors with the new designs. This "thing" shares those combs along with some simple hints on putting this together.Begin by printing about 10 of the wire combs for each axis. Note that I could not fit all of the wires along the Y axis and the comb in a 10x10 drag chain so I had to use my Voron 2.4 drag chain modification (on Thingiverse) that allows the use of a 10x15 chain. Once this modification is installed and the machine is tested by printing the two types of combs, the fun begins.Tips for installation:The combs should guide the wires as they move. They should not hold the wires in a fixed position.Use pieces of scotch tape along the sides of the combs to hold the wires in place until you insert them into the drag chain. Remove the tape before inserting into the chain. The combs a fragile. There is not a lot of room in the chain for the combs and all the wires so the combs are necessarily thin. Try increasing the infill for greater stability.Place the combs between links so that the "hold down" flaps on each link will lock into place.Along the x axis use the first slot to hold the 4 fan wires, the second to hold the heater wires and the thermistor wires, the third to hold the 3 probe wires and the last slot to hold the 4 motor wires.Along the y axis use the same distribution of wires as the x axis but in the first row add one e-stop wire (5 wires total), in the second row add the second e-stop wire (5 wires total) and the third row add the remaining 2 e-stop wires ( 5 wires total)I also redesigned my Voron toolhead cable organizer so that the wiring or the toolhead is easier. The cable organizer is also a "thing" on thingiverse. All that is required to implement this is a few grams of ABS and a few tons of patience (just kidding, a few tons of patience probably won't be enough). Good luck!
