With the VonHaus speaker mounts' original design, you can only pan a small speaker a few degrees before hitting the wall due to its limited mobility. However, this design cleverly spaces the bracket away from the wall, allowing for a much greater angle of tilt and rotation that enables better optimization of your speaker placement and imaging. The two top holes on this design are specifically designed to accommodate #12 2-1/4" wood screws, which should provide sufficient length to pass through drywall and reach a stud. Moreover, the countersink in the top hole is meant for a typical #12 washer, while the bottom hole is intended for a #12 screw that is 1" or shorter in length. In this particular design, the speaker mount is reversed from its original manufacturer's setup, but I found that this inverted configuration works better when mounting speakers close to the ceiling.
