Volvo Draco wheel center cap

Volvo Draco wheel center cap

thingiverse

A custom center cap designed for Volvo "Draco" style wheels, which differ significantly from the dimensions found on Virgo's and other common OEM wheels used in various Volvos during the 80's and 90's. To add a touch of authenticity, I included the iconic Volvo logo. The design is structurally identical to the original Volvo part, which is available for purchase by the way. I've incorporated a drain/slot feature to facilitate effortless removal. It's worth noting that these center caps may also fit other wheels, potentially including those used on Orion models, which share similar dimensions. The crucial details of the center features require solid printing and robust materials since they bear the weight of the cap against spring tension, secured by a specially designed "lip" within the wheel. In contrast to the original molded plastic caps with spring clips found on Volvo parts, my design incorporates a clip feature but may not be necessary if using the right material. Initially, I printed prototypes from PLA with 20% infill, but unfortunately, the spring force exceeded the material's capacity. Currently, I'm testing a solid PA-12 version, which appears to be remarkably durable. Two versions of the design have been uploaded, one with and one without additional guide features that may only prove beneficial for wheels with damaged center rings like mine.
