Volvo B230 B21 B23 Valve Spring Compressor

I was in desperate need of a valve spring compressor to upgrade my B230's valve springs. This tool is specifically designed to service your valves without requiring you to remove the head. For holding up the valves, I employed the rope trick, but you can also use a compression tester or get a specialized tool that hooks up to an air compressor and threads into the spark plug hole. Simply using air to hold up the valves gets the job done. As for the handle, the design features a 1/2" space to fit a tube in. I opted for a square tube to make drilling easy. For the pivots, I used 2 1/4" hitch pins, which can be easily found at any hardware store. This results in a cheap and simple tool. This design may also work for other engines, but I created it with the intention of being used once and kept things straightforward. The added benefit is that the magnet won't stick to the compressor like my big C-clamp style does.
