Volvo 98> Dipstick Plug
thingiverse
As many do, my dipstick broke on my 98 V70. If yours has broken, you probably know Volvo improved the design and as such, the old style dipstick is totally unavailable for next day or sooner delivery. You have to buy a new tube AND new dipstick. Without something in the tube, oil blows all over the engine bay, making it impossible to source a tube on time. I had a road trip planned the next day, so I made a plug to keep my car drivable while sourcing a dipstick update set. This plug will fit any early style Volvo dipstick tube with a single O-ring. It features an Iron mark pull ring. Disclaimer: I printed mine in PLA since that's what I had and it's fast, but it's really too hot for PLA in the engine bay. Heat plus pressure plus deformed plastic equals problems. As a quick fix, PLA will probably work, mine has been going strong for a week now, but if you have time and luxury, print in something that can take some heat. Things you'll need: 3 10ish mm OD Orings (I got the multipack from an autoparts store and found a few that looked about right. The journals for the orings have some play to accommodate miss matched Orings if you're looking for a super quick fix. With 3 total rings, the chances of all 3 failing to keep the plug in place are hopefully low) 1 larger O-ring (added an upper journal to make a 4th upper seal, totally optional) Print Settings: Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: .3 Infill: 100% Notes: Any resolution works, crank it down and it shouldn't care too much. Mine is at .3 I printed full infill to keep it rigid, I printed it lying down for speed and with supports and a little clean up it worked fine but it really should be printed upright. That said, designed to be a quick fix, whatever gets you to work, am I right?
