Volkswagen T1 The Volkswagen T1, a trailblazer in its own right, rolled off the assembly line from 1950 to 1967, with production continuing in Brazil until 1975. This pioneering civilian minivan not only revolutionized transportation but also became an iconic symbol of an era. Its enduring popularity among hippies earned it the nickname "hippiemobile" or "splitty." The brainchild of Dutch entrepreneur Ben Pon, who sketched out his vision for a Volkswagen minibus in 1947, was met with enthusiasm by VW CEO Heinrich Nordhoff. By the end of 1949, the Transporter made its official debut, marking a new chapter in automotive history.
