The Golf was a hatchback produced by the German automaker from 1983 to 1999. It was initially sold as the Golf Mk1 and later revised into the Golf Mk3 in 1991, however these versions were not directly related to the Golf 2. The Golf 2 was marketed globally with varying names depending on region; in Europe it remained known simply as the Golf, while in North America it was sold as the Volkswagen Rabbit and then renamed to the Golf in the late 1980s.
