Volkswagen "Activ" door speaker adapter plate
thingiverse
The 32 year old speakers on my car had all worn out long ago, but I couldn't find any cheap 3.5" drivers. This plate allows you to install common 3" speakers (I used the Facmogu 3 inch 4 ohm drivers) in place of the original ones, a quick and simple alternative to replacing the entire sound system. There are two adapters: one for the boxes in the doors, and another for the speakers in the dash.Boxes: Installation is relatively straightforward. Disassemble the boxes, then cut the wires to the old speaker and knock it out with a hammer. Mount new speaker to plate to box. Solder wires to the new speaker, reassemble and you're good to go.Dash: This is a bit more annoying. You'll have to gut the original speakers and keep the plastic ring that makes up the basket. Glue the print in somehow (I used superglue), then screw the speakers into the bracket. I cut off the old connector and attached terminals to the wires, then connected those to the speakers. Once that's in, the replacements should just click in place of the old ones.Rear: You don't need any adapters for these. Regular 4x6 drivers should fit in just fine.Installed on a 1992 Volkswagen Passat GL wagon. Note: the print in the photos had the holes spaced incorrectly. This has been fixed.
