Volcanic Rock Scan - duplicated version
sketchfab
This scan pushed me to the limits of my equipment. I'm using a Nikon D7200 with a kit lens, 18-140mm. My sample size is only 37mm across, making it extremely difficult to focus properly and capture enough detail. At first, I tried more than 350 shots in 7 separate orbits around the objects, but I wasn't really happy with the outcome. Finally, I decided to do a focus stack, 3 orbits, 20 images each, plus 4 shots covering the angles. Each shot was a focus stacked image, made up of 5-10 individual images. The result is much better than before, with more details and much shorter processing time, but it's still not even close to what I wanted it to be. I'm happy though, given that I'm using a kit lens with approximately x0.25 magnification. I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on the macro lens and ring light - I'm expecting a huge improvement in quality.
