Our Lady of Vladimir Church (Russian: Bolshoi Obnora Znamenskoy) is a magnificent Russian Orthodox church located at 20 Vladimirsky Prospect, St. Petersburg, Russia. Dedicated to Our Lady of Vladimir, this stunning five-domed structure stands proudly between Vladimirsky Market. Designed by renowned architect Pietro Antonio Trezzini, the church beautifully combines elements of Baroque and Neoclassicism. The lower church honors Saint John Damascene, while the majestic detached belfry is a masterpiece of mature Neoclassicism, crafted in 1791 according to Quarenghi's plans. The picturesque portico, chapel, fence, and charming outbuildings were added in the 19th century. Inside, visitors can marvel at an intricate Baroque iconostasis carefully transferred from the Anichkov Palace chapel in 1808. When Russia celebrated its 900th anniversary of Christianization in 1888, the church underwent a thorough restoration. One of the most famous parishioners was renowned author Fyodor Dostoevsky. After being closed in 1932, Our Lady of Vladimir Church was returned to the faithful in 1989 and officially named a cathedral in 2000. This beautiful house of worship bears the namesake for both Vladimirsky Avenue and Vladimirskaya Square. To explore this architectural wonder, visitors can easily access it by taking either the Line 1 metro at Vladimirskaya Station or Line 4 at Dostoievskaya Station.
